Choice Privileges is currently offering a purchased points promotion, which expires in a few days. I wanted to recap everything you need to know about this offer, and under what circumstances it might make sense to purchase points.

Until Monday, November 8, 2021, Choice Privileges is offering a sale on purchased points. Choice offers a progressive bonus of up to 30% on points purchased, as follows:

  • Buy 16,000 to 180,000 points, get 30% bonus

Different accounts can display different offers very well, so you will need to log into your Choice Privileges account to see what you are entitled to.

How much does it cost to purchase Choice Privileges points?

Choice Privileges pricing when purchasing points is non-linear, and you get a lower cost the more you purchase points, regardless of any bonuses or promotional discounts. Before taking bonuses or discounts into account, the cost of purchasing points varies from 1.31 cents per point (if you only buy 1,000 points) to 1.09 cents per point (if you buy 180,000 points).

If you have maximized this promotion, you could purchase a total of 234,000 points (including 54,000 bonus points) for $ 1,962, which represents a cost of ~ 0.84 cents per Choice Privileges point.

When Choice offers a promotion on the points purchased, it is usually a 25-30% discount or a 30-40% bonus. This promotion is in line with the typical offers we see in the program.

Is purchasing Choice Privileges points worth it?

While it doesn’t get much attention in the world of miles and points, Choice is a huge hotel group, with over 7,000 properties in 40 countries, representing approximately 570,000 hotel rooms. Choice hotel brands include (among others) Ascend, Cambria, Comfort Inn, Sleep Inn, Quality Inn, Clarion, Rodeway Inn, and more.

The catch is that Choice doesn’t have as many ambitious properties. In general, outright purchase points are most valuable if you are considering a premium surrender, as this is the best way to get inordinate value to the cost of a stay. if you pay in cash.

Choice Privileges does not have an official rewards table, but in general rewards prices range from 6,000 to 35,000 points per night. In Asia-Pacific, some properties cost up to 75,000 points per night.

There are certainly some properties where you will get disproportionate value by earning Choice Privileges points at a reduced price. For example, Choice has an impressive footprint in Northern Europe, where hotels can otherwise be expensive by paying in cash, especially in the summer. You can redeem points at properties like the Clarion Collection Hotel Folketeateret and the Clarion Collection Hotel Bastion, which cost 16,000 points per night.

If you bought the points for these stays through this promotion for 0.84 cents each, that would be equivalent to paying ~ $ 134 per night, which is a good deal, especially since these hotels offer breakfast and a free dinner.

The Citi ThankYou program recently added Choice Privileges as a transfer partner. Better yet, the points are transferred at a 1: 2 ratio, which is a rate at which a transfer could make a lot of sense.

Choice Privileges sells points with a bonus of up to 30%, which is an opportunity to purchase points for as little as 0.84 cents each. While I would absolutely not recommend picking up Choice Privileges points speculatively at this price, with specific, short-term use in mind, this offer could be a good one.
