Demonstrating its continued commitment to improving traditional branch-based services for customers in all provinces of PNG, the upgraded BSP Palmalmal Hybrid branch in Pomio district of East New Britain province was opened on Friday, March 4, 2022.
BSP Financial Group Limited established the sub-branch in Palmalmal in 2012 to serve approximately 100,000 people (then) in Pomio district who would otherwise have to travel to Kokopo and Rabaul by air or sea to access banking services.
BSP Group managing director for retail, Daniel Faunt, said the sub-branch was providing limited service mainly due to unreliable telecommunications infrastructure. “We have transformed the sub-branch into a hybrid branch at a cost of over K2 million, which will essentially improve our communication and systems to enable us to offer more services to the people of Pomio. These services include continued provision of basic banking services such as account opening, deposit and withdrawal services as well as access to other banking products, including the ability for Pomio businesses to access banking services. The new branch is a larger modern building and will have more staff to serve customers.

“Upgrading the BSP Palmalmal branch will be a relief to the people of the district as our personal and business customers will be able to save a lot of time and money traveling to Kokopo as the service is now at their doorstep. , churches, schools, family group and personal banking customers will all benefit from this larger facility,” Faunt added.
BSP Group CEO Robin Fleming, who was also present at the opening, said such an upgrade shows that BSP is not just a financial institution, but also a people’s and community bank. A similar upgrade is underway for the Telefomin sub-branch.
“We are the only bank serving the Pomio district and 21 other locations in PNG. BSP is also the only bank serving Kerevat and Rabaul. We remain committed to expanding, modernizing and improving our services across the country. : the recent opening of our branches in Koroba and Namatanai, reopening of the sub-branch in Kerema as well as new branches under construction in Eriku in Lae, Dobel in Mt Hagen, upgrade of Maprik and conversion to a full branch later in 2022. This also includes an expansion and dedicated lending center in Boroko,” Mr. Fleming added.
